Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds: A Unique and Stylish Window Dressing Set

Aesthetic, Practical, and Original: Lesley Bloomfield Faedi's Design

Lesley Bloomfield Faedi, a renowned designer, has created a stunning three-part window dressing set called Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds. This design combines practicality with aesthetics, offering fully lined curtains that provide insulation, solar protection, echo dampening, warmth, and the ability to mask an unsightly view. Additionally, the set includes a blind that filters light, making it a versatile and functional addition to any space.

The uniqueness of Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds lies in its combination of different colored fabrics, textures, shapes, and surfaces. The set features pea/light/metallic dark green, navy blue, white, and yellow fabrics, including satin ribbons, linen, and net. The use of small and big diamonds adds an artistic touch, while the contrast between piping and flat fabric panels creates a striking visual effect.

The realization of this design involves the use of silver eyelet headed curtains with light green lining. The curtains are machine-sewn together, with strips of light green, pea green, and navy blue fabric. Hand-sewn navy blue and pea/light green linen diamonds, blue bias tape, metallic dark green satin ribbon, and small plastic green beads add intricate details to the design. The central element of the set showcases a battened head, taut piped material panel, descending net diamond ribboned panels, and a final piped diamond, all seamlessly attached to each other.

Each lined curtain measures W = 2620mm x H = 2600mm, with panels illustrating three strips of material (W = 1120mm all strips together) in light green, pea green, and navy blue. The rectangular light green element measures W = 1500mm. The central element has an overall length of 1500mm, with the first panel's width measuring 860mm. The following degrading panels have varying lengths and widths. The piping elements have a diameter of 30mm, adding to the design's elegance and sophistication.

Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of a space but also offers functional benefits. The fixed central element acts as a focal point, gently filtering light and creating a contrast to the surrounding curtains. The curtains can be partially or fully drawn over the central element, allowing for varying levels of light penetration. The central element itself can integrate a traditional blind mechanism with hooks and cords, providing the option to adjust the amount of light entering the room.

Lesley Bloomfield Faedi embarked on this project in February 2010 in Metz, France, and completed it in July 2010. The design process involved extensive research on aesthetics and the client's desire for a unique and striking set that aligned with their perception of art. Consideration was also given to the variation of light throughout the day, ensuring that the curtains could be adjusted to filter light effectively.

This exceptional design, Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds, has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2012. This award celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Ribbons, Strips and Diamonds stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its ability to provide fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
